The Collection of
Terracotta Vases

Multiple Illustrations.
SAFETY MATCHES VASES:
The allure of Safety Matches initially captivated me with their enigmatic and almost tarot-like compositions. I was fascinated by the intricate interplay between text and ornamental embellishments, which drew inspiration from everyday objects in their advertising. The idea that they employed anything and everything as their advertising material was an entertaining thought and intrigued me. It was this intriguing concept that led me to pursue Safety Matches as my primary inspiration for the forthcoming TC GC Vase series.

IMAGERY for the Safety Match Vases:
Each vase would feature different safety match images on its sides, while maintaining a consistent theme throughout. This approach ensured that the individual illustrations on each form worked together harmoniously, creating a cohesive and visually captivating collection. By ensuring that the imagery on all sides of the vase was balanced and harmonious, we also maintained visual symmetry. Through the process of multi-color patchwork Sgraffito on terracotta, each illustration comes to life, weaving a narrative that transcends traditional boundaries.

FORM-
As I ventured into the phase of creating Terracotta vases and incorporating multiple illustrations, I realized the need for forms with multiple flat surface areas. This recollection brought me to Geometric Construction (GC), inspiring the upcoming forms to be shaped by GC principles. Among the series of 3 vases, this hand-built vase stands as the tallest one I have crafted thus far, making it a remarkable addition to the collection in terms of both size and visual impact. Its form has more pronounced angles that lend it a bolder appearance, enhanced with the addition of a collar. The collar not only provided a sense of structure and stability to the vase but also added a refined finishing touch by complementing the overall aesthetic.

Among the series of 3 vases, this particular large sized form was enhanced with the addition of a collar. The collar not only provided a sense of structure and stability to the vase but also added a refined finishing touch by complementing the overall aesthetic.

SINGLE ILLUSTRATION
The next area within Terracotta, Complex Hand-built Vases was making Pop-Graphic Imagery on the forms. Personally I think one detailed illustration is much better than multiple small ones as it makes the form pop out more and also visually looks better.
KAPOW Vase
FORM-
Inspired by the dynamic nature of the word 'pop,' this slab-built TC Kapow vase is a whimsical expression of creativity. It's spikey form was inspired by the visual shape often associated with the word, making it important for me to ensure that the base and neck seamlessly integrated with the overall shape of the vase, creating a cohesive design without drawing excessive attention to these specific areas.
IMAGERY-
This vase being a personal favourite showcases a playful comic word, brought to life through flashy elements and carefully placed relief engobe dots that add a delightful texture. The color scheme leans towards the primary colours, as they have a vibrant and eye-catching effect, particularly on terracotta. With its multi-color patchwork Sgraffito on terracotta, this vase becomes a captivating canvas, as it adds a touch of comic-inspired charm to ones' space.

Ramen to a Dragon Vase
FORM-
Introducing the "TC Ramen to a Dragon Vase", where slab-built whimsical forms and captivating illustrations collide. Inspired by a playful imagination, this vase takes on a quirky shape that accentuates the central illustration. With multi-color patchwork Sgraffito on terracotta, intricate strokes bring to life a delightful fusion of ramen and dragon motifs.
IMAGERY-
Achieving an accurate representation of the dragon required quite an attention to detail, particularly in capturing its fine scales. Each scale was meticulously crafted to maintain consistency in size and direction, following the contours of the dragon's body. This level of precision was crucial in bringing the dragon to life and ensuring a harmonious visual effect.
